using tactic for VFX & Blender. - fxside - 03-30-2020
Hi guys,
With the help of online videos. I know how to create projects & successfully allocating tasks. And different users reading their tasks in their corresponding logins and uploading check-ins from manual drag n drop file to the tactic page. Now, before I use it on floor, I have few more queries :
- how can I make tactic run on a custom/own folder structure? is it possible?
- how to make a publish script in blender. is there anything online ready for tactic? Is it hard/easy to do it by self?
- what is Lecia in TACTIC ? (LECIA comes when usinf vfx template)
- is there some complete solution video tutorial of TACTIC from VFX / CG point of view? Wherefrom creating projects to publishing files, setting up emails, setting up folder structure, have been covered?

Hello,
I bet you will get more elaborated answers from more experienced people, but for now, yo could check in vimeo, there are many tutorials that shows how to start.
About Blender, since it uses python, and there is a tactic python api, you can surely make something your self easily.
so far , I have worked with shotgun and ftrack integration with maya, and I have always used Pyblish to integrate some validations and also to pyblish to them, and now, I am starting to do the same with tactic, and everything seems doable so far.

You can customize the folder structure as you wish with the naming convention, go to Side bar Admin views-> Project Essentials -> Naming , check Chapter 13 "Naming Conventions" in the "TACTIC Setup" manual for more info

You can use the tactic API check src/client/tactic_client_lib/tactic_server_stub.py method simple_checkin() for more info check chapter 2 "Client API" in the "TACTIC Developer" manual

I think the best learning source are the manuals http://community.southpawtech.com/community/link/docs and, if you want to go deeper, the tactic source code
