Can you share what was the biggest problem during your TACTIC setup experience?

Hello Listy,

Installing the software and starting a simple project.
1.The download for the enterprise version doesn't start from the official link
http://community.southpawtech.com/community/link/downloads

2.Installing from Git : the python 3 version has outdated(2.7) install.py file.
3.Installing TC with python 2.7 and the python packages are outdated  

It's been an exercise in frustration.
I'm hopeful things will change now that the forums are back online

The official TACTIC docs contain installation instructions for Python 2. 

Updated Python 3 installation material for TACTIC 4.7, including an RPM, is in progress. This will be available soon.

Have you tried the VM image available on the downloads page? This is a great way to get started with TACTIC.

Hello Celton,
I have installed the latest VM image. However this is what happens
1.I can run and test tactic "if " i'm connected to the internet. Once I disconnect I cannot get tactic to work
2.I want to have tactic work on a LAN that's not connected to the internet. 
3.Once I know that I can run tactic without the internet then I will proceed to install the enterprise version on a windows server
Please help me accomplish this.

Hi Behram,

You should definitely be able to run TACTIC without an internet connection. What is the error that you are receiving?

EDIT : ITS WORKING !
Hello Celton,
When I install the package as per the documentation below

I do not get an ip address as in the example above. I get a web console https://localhost:9090/  which cannot connect / access tactic from the browser (chrome).

What adapter settings am i supposed to use to get an ip address ?

Hello Celton,
I looked at the troubleshooting section of the VM documentation and tactic indeed does work without the internet.
As per the help http://community.southpawtech.com/docs/s...eshooting/
enter ifconfig in the command window when the image is run. That will let you login to the page regardless of a connection.

Next Challenge:
To connect my laptop to my workstation (tactic VM inage) and log into the tactic page (without the internet).
Is there some port forwarding trickery that has to be done here ?

There is NAT, Host-Only and Bridged?

Host-Only and Bridge should give you an IP without any port forwarding. NAT requires port forwarding set up.

I'm new to this so I will have to look up a few tutorials on port forwarding etc.

I have 2 machines. Host & Client  that are connected via a cable (and no internet).
What setting should I be using on the Host (VM) with port forwarding and what settings should I be using on the client ?

Hi Behram,

Did you read the TACTIC VM guide in the Sys admin documentation?

This includes a section on port forwarding for NAT.

Network set up for the VM is very simple. You should not need to do more than enable the specific type of adapter, and set up port forwarding if you are using NAT.
Feel free to screen shot your settings.
